This weekend, KRBHK Attorney Laura Vaught represented Rutherford County Farm Bureau in the Tennessee Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Discussion Meet. After three preliminary rounds, the elite eight semifinal round, and the final four, she was selected this year’s statewide winner! She won a new John Deere ZTrak mower, provided by TriGreen Equipment, and a cash prize sponsored by Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation and Farm Bureau Insurance. She will go on to represent Tennessee at the Discussion Meet competition at the 100th American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Convention in New Orleans, LA in January.

The Discussion Meet is a competition that simulates a committee meeting. Four competitors exchange ideas to create solutions for a real-world issue facing farmers and ranchers. They are evaluated on problem-solving skills, knowledge of the topic, and building consensus. Each round of competition presents a new topic for discussion. This year’s topics included engaging with associate members of Farm Bureau; inclusivity in agriculture; recruiting STEM professionals to agricultural careers; ensuring farmers have access to technology options; and identifying value-added ventures and new opportunities for farm profit. More information about the discussion meet can be found at https://www.fb.org/programs/young-farmers-and-ranchers/competitive-events/.

Congratulations to Laura, and the best of luck at the next level!
